The Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Office has prepared the detailed project report to control landslides, that have put settlements, roads and bridges at risk at Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3 in Myagdi district.
Estimated budget for the project would be Rs 23.4 million, said, assistant soil conservation officer, Shambhu Kumar Mishra, adding, "We will implement the DPR prepared by geologists in four phases by carrying out a field study. A plan is afoot to contain landslips at Rahughat through various emergency programmes."
Under the programme to control landslips, drainage will be constructed and gorges will be protected and tree saplings will be planted, he said. Around 30 households in Rahughat have been at risk of landslides, said a local, Laxman Chalise.
The situation has made the local people to rush in nearby areas, Galeshwor, Ghumaune Lake, Tilleni and Gayatri temple, for shelter, when it starts raining every time.
The landslips have affected transportation along the Beni-Jomsom that links Mustang with the national highway through the northern side of Myagdi district, he said. The rampant use of a dozer to dip the road and explosion of devices to construct a tunnel for the local Rahughat hydropower project are to be blamed for the disaster.
