Local people of Dhurkot Rural Municipality in Gulmi district have been elated after receiving water at their houses through the lifting technology. Now, with the facility, their compulsion to reach far away to fetch a pot of water has ended.
The rural municipality has made available drinking water to the people of ward 5 through the lifting technology under the 'one house one tap' program, said Bhupal Pokhrel, the rural municipality chair. According to him, 650 people from 108 households have been ensured the facility.
With the availability of the facility, the compulsion to stand in line for hours has come to an end, said a resident Kamala Bhandari.
The rural municipality is a dry area in terms of the availability of drinking water. Seven wards of the rural municipality have been facing a shortage of water.
The rural municipality has provided drinking water to the local people in the area lacking water sources through the lifting technology, said Pokhrel. "As the locality lacks water sources, most of the people in the rural municipality spend their time in search of water. But now, they are happy as the water facility has reached their homes," he said.
The project cost over Rs 15 million. Construction work is underway in providing water to the remaining 1,732 of the total 5,382-household rural municipality, added the rural municipality.
The project is expected to be completed within two years, said Pokhrel.
