Since Wednesday, electricity consumption has reached the highest level of the year due to the cold weather. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), electricity consumption has reached 1,699 MW. NEA spokesperson Suresh Bahadur Bhattarai said that the power consumption would increased further. He said that there was power cut in many places due to ineffective distribution of electricity.
According to Bhattarai, the NEA's distribution structure has not been able to supply electricity to the customers due to high demand. In order to make the distribution effective, NEA has stated that the old structure will be reconstructed, the underground structure will be operated immediately, the construction work blocked by the road will be coordinated and the work will start.
The NEA has stated that it aims to increase the rate of electricity consumption to 1,800 MW from next year as the construction of sub-stations for distribution and the transmission line expansion has started.
With the increase in consumption, the domestic production has been supplying electricity by importing from India in winter. According to NEA, up to 650 MW of electricity has to be supplied from India at the present.
