Power supply and telephone service in Rukum (East) remain discontinued for the past two days, affecting local people in various ways.
A storm and lightning have been blamed for the glitches in the service. Lightning damaged the telephone tower in Rukum (East), disrupting the service, said Chandan Kumar Yadav, chief of the telecommunications office, Rukum (East). Repair of the damaged tower has been completed and the service would resume shortly, he added.
Similarly, transmission lines at many places have been damaged by storms, said Suresh Chaudhary, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority distribution center. As a result, people and governmental and non-governmental organizations have been affected in many ways, especially when the May 13 local election is around the corner, said district election officer Tej Kumar Oli.
