Enough laws for women's rights- Shrestha

Minister for Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Social Development Mekhlal Shrestha of Gandaki said that the state has enacted laws with adequate policies and regulations for women's rights. Speaking at a program organized by the Ministry on the occasion of the 4th National Women's Rights Day 2022 AD with the slogan 'Respect for Women: Identity of Civilized Society', Shrestha said that adequate laws have been formulated by the state for rights but there are problems in its implementation.

"There is no shortage of laws but implementation is complicated. Everyone needs to take initiative for the implementation of the policy," said Shrestha. He said that it was necessary to fulfill the duty along with the rights for building a civilized and just society.

Stating that the role of men and women should be empowered for a non-violent society, he said that the role of civil society and journalists would be important in removing the obstacles in the operation of women's housing in Pokhara.

On the occasion, INSEC Gandaki State Office Program Officer Sabnam Sharma presented a working paper on the status and challenges of women's rights in the state while Vinay Pandey, a psychologist from Koshish, presented on the interrelationship and management of violence and psychosocial health problems.

Shri Ram Timilsina, Inspector of Police, District Police Office, Kaski, gave a brief presentation on the legal provisions to end the growing violence in the society.

Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister's Office Muktinarayan Bhandari, Secretary at the Ministry of Social Affairs Devendra Lamichhane, Chief of the Division Jamuna Poudel, Central Member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Sarita Timilsina, INSEC Gandaki Chief Shiva Khakurel, Chairperson of Women's Human Rights Defenders Network Indra Kumari Sharma and others were also present.
