In memory of mountaineer and philanthropist late Wongchu Sherpa, an honor program for the donors of the Wongchu Memorial Primary Hospital Tapting was held at Khamding, Ward no 10, Solududhkunda Municipality of Solukhumbu district today. Mayor of Solududhkunda Municipality Namgyal Jangwu Sherpa was the chief guest of the program, where many donors from America were present along with representatives of its fundraising partner Wilderness Medical Society from USA, Musa Masala and Everest ER.
The ward's health post was upgraded and is now transformed to a 15-bed hospital. The Municipality and Himalayan Yokpu Foundation have been jointly operating the hospital in public-private partnership model.
It is also the first government hospital which is named after an individual. The decision to do so was passed by a cabinet meeting honouring contribution of late Wongchu Sherpa in tourism, environment conservation and mountaineering section. Though the honoring program for the donors was conducted today, the service operation of this hospital was already initiated last February and is now providing treatment to around 600 patients in a month.
In memory and honor of the donors, various wards and buildings of the hospital have been named after their respective names.
The hospital has also announced to provide free medical treatment to its land donors. It has also the best in the area based on its services and facilities.
In order to provide high-quality health services, the hospital is also providing services from its recently constructed 'birthing center'.
The hospital has been able to provide OPD, USG, pharmacy, general checkup, delivery , LAB and other services till date. Within a month, Wongchhu Hospital will receive a high-quality 500MA DR system x-ray machine. It is also further planning to construct a separate building for ENT service, dental ward, conference hall, in patient ward & many other necessary remaining services thereof.
Establishment of a technically sound health institution like Wongchhu Memorial Primary Hospital Tapting in a remote place like Solukhumbu is an example that dedication and willpower can move mountains, and that development is possible in any place of the world.
