Five people were killed when a jeep met with an accident at Pancheshwor rural municipality in Baitadi, today.
The deceased have been identified as jeep driver Tej Bahadur Bohara, Jeet Singh Bhandari, 50, Dammar Singh Bhandari, 30, Himmat Bhandari, 27, and Deepak Bhandari, 40, of Pancheshwor-6.
The driver breathed his last on the way to the hospital while the four people died on the spot, police said. The other five sustained injuries in the accident and until the filing of this report the injured were being taken to the District Hospital for treatment.
The jeep met with the accident near the Ganameshwor Temple at Rodidewal as it was heading towards the District Hospital, carrying mortal remains of Pancheshwor-6 Ward Member Govinda Singh Bhandari.
The ward chair was killed after being struck by a lightning on Monday night. The jeep was hired to transport his body to the hospital for a post-mortem. The jeep (Se 1 Ja 183) fell some 500 meters down from the road at around 2:45 pm as the driver was trying to gear back the jeep to pass through a narrow mode, police said.
