Nepal has signed an agreement with India to purchase about 900,000 tonnes of chemical fertilizers over a period of five years.

According to this agreement, the Government of Nepal will purchase 457 thousand metric tons of urea and 370 thousand metric tons of DAP within the year 2025/26.

In March, under the Intergovernmental Agreement on Purchase of Fertilizers (GTOG), Nepal's Agricultural Materials Company Limited and India's National Chemical Fertilizer (RCF) agreed to buy fertilizers at international prices at that time. hello now Rajendra Karki, acting director of the agricultural inputs company, announced on July 17 that a fertilizer purchase contract for the 25/26 fiscal year had been signed.

Karki said that according to the agreement, the first lot of 160,000 metric tons of fertilizer can enter Nepal by next November. "On July 17, an agreement was signed between the two companies for the purchase of fertilizer," said Karki, "due to the delay in the agreement, 110,000 metric tons of urea and 60,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer will be brought into the second year."

As per the agreement, 60,000 DAP, 1,10,000 DAP of urea, 115,000 DAP of urea and 80,000 DAP of fertilizer will be supplied in year 3 (this fiscal year). Similarly, 120,000 tonnes of urea and 90,000 tonnes of DAP will be delivered in year 4. In year 5, 120,000 tons of urea and 90,000 tons of DAP fertilizer will be delivered.

The Agricultural Commodities Agency said that one hundred thousand metric tons of urea are left and 50 metric tons of urea fertilizer will be imported in the first year.

In response to a demand for fertilizers from Nepal, the two companies agreed to buy fertilizers from an Indian company through a global auction and sell them in Nepal.

The contract states that the Indian company will ship the goods on behalf of the Nepali company along with the bag. According to Karki, depots for transporting fertilizers have been identified in Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Birgunj.
