Nepal Petroleum Dealers National Association on Friday had announced a protest after their demands to raise their commission was not met by the government-run fuel distribution monopoly, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

While both parties have allegedly come to an agreement, they made a joint statement saying that all of the fuel depots will be open by 8 am today, however people are still waiting in long lines outside the petrol pump. Most of the petrol pumps are still out of service, and people are now in fear of fuel shortages.

The petroleum dealers had stopped buying the products from oil deports on March 4 as part of their protest. The demand was for NOC to hike their commission in 15 days along with a raise in transportation fare.

Talking to NepalNews, the spokesperson of Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Dr Narayan Prasad Regmi, says, “We have talked to the committee consisting of Nepal Petroleum Dealers National Association, Federation of Petroleum Transportation Traders and Nepal LP Gas Industry Association and have already come to a settlement after the meeting on Saturday. And within seven days the commission regard the product distribution and transport fare will see a new adjustment.”

As per the recent press release from the corporation, the price of petrol has increased by 31.35 per cent to Rs155 per litre within a year along with the price of diesel and kerosene reaching up to Rs 138 per litre with the increase of 36.63 per cent while liquefied petroleum gas price has increased by Rs12.5 per cent to Rs1,575. This year alone, the prices of petroleum products have changed 18 times.

With the association lifting the protest, it is reported that the fuel tankers are back to work and from tomorrow there will not be a problem to get petroleum products.
