Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Vice President of Nepali Congress, who has been implicated in the Lalita Niwas scandal, has appeared before the court today. Gachhadar who had been refraining from appearing before the court today did so at the Special Court.
A corruption case has been registered against 175 people including Gachhadar for being involved in transferring the government land of Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar in the names of various individuals. The Nepali Congress leader had been categorised as absconding in the related case for about a year.
The Special Court now has planned to record Gachhadar’s statement and move ahead with the case. Gachhadar was the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport when the scandal apparently took place.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had registered a corruption case against Gachhadar seeking over Rs 96.57 million in penalty.
