A garbage management center will be constructed in Shuklaphanta Municipality with the concessional loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank. The center is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 267.7 million. The Ministry of Forest and Environment has already given approval to use the land of Shrikrishna Community Forest for the construction of the center. The center will be constructed in an area of five hectares of community forest, said Drona Katuwal, an engineer of the Regional Urban Development Project.

According to him, a contract agreement was signed between the Regional Urban Development Project Implementation Unit and Raman KSJV Kailali on May 6 for the construction of the Garbage Management Center.

Mayor Ran Bahadur Mahara said that the construction of the Garbage Management Center has not received much attention for a long time. "The contract process has moved forward," he said.

Meanwhile, the Bhimdatta Municipality is going to form a task force with experts for the implementation of a detailed study for the construction of an integrated garbage management center. It has been decided to form a task force from the second executive meeting of the municipality. A garbage management center is being set up in the municipality under the Regional Urban Development Project. The construction of garbage management center has not been able to move ahead due to lack of land. Leaders of political parties and locals have been obstructing the construction of garbage management center.

Spokesperson of the municipality Mahendra Khadka said that it was decided to take it forward after discussing it in the executive meeting. Construction of garbage management center is the first condition for the regional urban development project. As the work of the center could not proceed, the construction work of all the roads including the 36 kilometers of sewer to be constructed under the project has not progressed yet. At present, only 14 km road construction work has been started in Bhimdatta.

The project is being implemented with concessional loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank. A waste management center is being constructed with an investment of Rs. 600 million under the project. At present, 7.29 tons of garbage is being dumped in the market and surrounding areas of the municipality daily. The municipality has been collecting garbage from 700 houses in the vicinity including Mahendranagar Bazaar. The municipality was established in 1977 AD.
