GBV survivors need life skills training for livelihood

Necessity of life skills training for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) has been emphasized so as to support their livelihood.

At a programme organized by ABC Nepal in collaboration with the Biratnagar Metropolitan City at Biratnagar today, the participants stressed the need of encouraging GBV survivors to seek self-sufficiency by providing them life skills training.

Different organizations including ABC Nepal and other individuals under the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence held discussions to explore ways for making the target group self-reliant.

On the occasion, Acting Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Prakash Saha said effective training should be imparted to the survivors for their livelihood.

ABC Nepal Chairperson Bishnu Sharma Panta presented the data that one, out of five persons, aged 15-49 experiences violence. The organization has launched gender-based violence prevention and response project in Biratnagar, Okhaldhunga and Udaipur and 23 people are receiving service from it.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Morang, Tika Bahadur Karki, legal practitioner and Chief of Women and Children Section of the Metropolitan City, Dilli Dhimal expressed the view that it would be helpful in income-generation of GBV survivors if training could be imparted keeping their interest and potentialities in mind.

ABC Nepal Shelter Chief Srijana Bhandari briefed about activities carried out under the project.
