In a bid to make sure that survivors of natural disasters do not face any problems of shelter the government has intensified the temporary housing building programme for the resettlement of such victims. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, it has already allocated Rs 28.65 million for the purpose to eight districts that have been massively affected by the monsoon related disasters this year.

The fund that has been allotted is for the temporary rehabilitation of 573 affected households.

Similarly, Rs 2.99 million has been disbursed to the respective districts by the federal government as the first installment of the budget for the reconstruction of 4,937 private houses in 22 districts hit by incidents of natural disasters last year.

The monsoon arrived in Nepal on June 11 and spread across the country on June 13. This monsoon the country has witnessed more rainfall than in normal times and the number of incidents related to natural disasters is higher compared to previous years. Every year, the Hill districts face problems of landslides whereas Tarai districts suffer from floods and the Mountainous region is affected by avalanches and snowfall.

Lack of awareness among the people is one major reason for the number of monsoon-related disasters rising in Nepal. Building settlements in vulnerable zones and haphazard construction of roadways, among others, have always been a problem in the country.

Last year, around 400 people had died from monsoon-related disasters and over 1,100 families were directly affected by it.
