Govt committed to protect lives of citizens: Home Minister

Minister for Home Affairs, Bal Krishna Khand, has said that the government was committed to protecting the lives of its citizens.

During the meeting of the Disaster Management Committee held at the Home Ministry on Sunday, Home Minister Khand directed the bodies concerned to involve in saving the lives of the people, in rescue and relief tasks, saying saving the lives of its citizens was the first priority of the government.

Saying the road network has been obstructed after the flood at the Helambu market area of Sindhupalchowk district swept away Chanaute bridge on Saturday night, the meeting demanded the immediate arrangement of an alternative bridge.

The meeting took the decision that the bodies concerned should make coordination among government bodies of all three levels in order to make arrangement of smooth supply of food and medicine at landslide and flood-affected areas and to resume vehicular movement along the road damaged by flood and landslide.

The meeting also decided that the Centre would take initiative for the construction of damaged roads and facilitate for the arrangement of budget for the same.

Minister Khand added that the activities to construct suspension bridges replacing tuins should be accelerated.

Home Secretary Maheshwar Neupane, Inspector General of Nepal Police Shailesh Thapa Chhetri, Inspector General of Armed Police Force Shailendra Khanal, Chief Investigation Director Ganesh Prasad Adhikari, Spokesperson of Home Ministry, Phanindra Mani Pokharel, among others were present in the meeting.
