Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki on Saturday said the government is in favor of freedom of expression and press freedom.
Addressing the 11th annual general assembly of the Online Journalists' Association in the federal capital on Saturday, Minister Karki, who is also the government's spokesperson, termed the role of online news portals crucial in shaping public voices.
Karki said that the role of the Association would be instrumental for the professional development of journalism.
On the occasion, Karki pledged to provide public welfare advertisements to the online media portal like other media.
Likewise, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Bipul Pokharel argued that the role and relevance of online media have further increased in the Nepali media industry.
During the program, Association's Chairman Shiva Prasad Satyal, FNJ's senior vice-chair Ramesh Bista, FNJ's former chair Taranath Dahal, Nepal Press Council's chair Bal Krishna Basnet and other speakers asked the minister for the government's effective role to further develop online journalism.
The assembly also elected a seven-member working committee under the chair of Dilli Prasad Sapkot
