GP Koirala Respiratory Treatment Centre to have 5 ventilators, 10 ICU beds

The Federal Government has allocated Rs 90 million for the GP Koirala Respiratory Treatment Centre located at Shukla Gandaki Municipality in Tanahun district meant for expanding infrastructures for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

With the financial support from the Federal Government, the Centre will upgrade its health care services for the management of ventilators, ICU beds, oxygen plant set up and oxygen tank.

The Ministry of Finance has recently decided to allocate more than Rs 2.95 billion for 26 hospitals and nine provincial hospitals across the country.

It is said that Rs 60 million would be used for managing five ventilators and 10 ICU beds and other amounts for oxygen plant and oxygen tank.

Centre’s Executive Director Dr Ram Kumar Shrestha said that the Centre’s capacity to treat more patients will be improved with financial assistance from the Federal Government.

Likewise, the Finance Ministry has decided to provide Rs 3 million for Damauli Hospital for the construction of an oxygen plant.

Prior to this, the Gandaki Province Government had provided Rs 7.5 million for Damauli Hospital to set up the oxygen plant.

Hospital Development Committee’s Chairman Pradip Raj Adhikari said that the equipment needed for setting up oxygen plant were procured from India even in the time of prohibitory order. The oxygen plant in Damauli Hospital can generate 10 cylinders of oxygen every day.

Meanwhile, an 81-year-old person of Shukla Gandaki Municipality-5 died of COVID-19 on Monday for lack of ICU bed at GP Koirala Respiratory Treatment Centre.
