Lamki area of Kailali district has remained tense after two persons were injured in police firing today.
Police had fired the gun into the air to disperse a group of locals who resorted to highway obstruction following the death of a woman in a road accident at around 8:30 am, according to chief of Kailali district police, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anupam Shumsher JB Rana.
According to police, the injured have been sent to a health institution in Kohalpur.
Locals gathered at Lamki on the East-West Highway and burned the tyres following the death of a woman who was hit by a bus (Na 6 Kha 8833) in a road accident. Police identified the deceased as Kamala Devkota (22) of Lamkichuha Municipality-1 in the district.
The bus heading towards Tikapur had hit pedestrian Devkota killing her, said police.
Police said locals have continued obstructing the Highway burning tyres since 8:30 am today. It has also been learnt that the protesters also picketed the Lamki-based Area Police Office where police have impounded the bus and taken the driver in police custody for further investigation into the incident.
SP Rana told NepalNews that the situation has remained tense as locals have obstructed the highway and have further intensified the protest after two persons were injured in the police firing.
He said one of the injured is in critical condition.
