Khimlal Devkota, who recently won the by-election to the vacant seat of the National Assembly of Bagmati Province, will be taking the oath of office and secrecy today. The by-election to the National Assembly was held on May 20.
The seat had fallen vacant after then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal) shifted his allegiance from CPN (Maoist Centre) to CPN UML. Devkota, an independent candidate, had defeated Thapa in the by-election.
Thapa was the CPN UML’s candidate for the vacant seat to the National Assembly while Devkota had received support from an alliance of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN UML faction of Madhav Kumar Nepal.
