A labourer working on the 900 MW Arun-III Hydropower Project under construction in Sankhuwasabha has died.
The deceased has been identified as Mugerilal Singh, 45, of Madhya Pradesh, India. Last night, while working inside the tunnel, Indian laborer Singh was injured after accidentally being hit by a rock. He died at the district hospital while undergoing treatment. Chief District Officer Nur Hari Khatiwada informed that the police went to the spot to find out the truth about the incident. Workers inside the tunnel are at high risk of injuries. They have complained about the lack of safety equipments being provided for the project.
There are no well-equipped hospitals near the Arun III Hydropower project site.
Currently, about 3,000 Nepalese and Indian workers are working on the project. Workers are obliged to be taken to a distant hospital if they are injured or sick while working. The workers have been demanding regular health check-ups.
