Madan Bhandari Memorial Foundation has honoured Niru Kumari Magar of Makwanpur and Dr Mingmar Gyelzen Sherpa of Solukhumbu with this year's 'Madan Bhandari Transformation National Leadership Award'.
The award carrying a purse of Rs 100,000 and a letter of appreciation each was presented to the duo on the occasion of the 72nd birth anniversary of Bhandari, the late veteran leftist leader, by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari amidst a programme here on Thursday.
Magar, a resident of Pratibhanagar of Makwanpur submetropolis-4 was conferred the award in recognition of more than three decades contribution for the promotion of sports and challenging gender stereotypes against women athletes.
Dr Sherpa of Phaplu of Solududhkunda municipality-4 was recognised for his services to the people of remote areas, from indigent, helpless and marginalized communities since the past 45 years and thus contributing to decreasing child mortality rate and increasing people's access to basic healthcare facilities. He was accredited for promoting rural ultrasound programmes and telemedicine services in the rural areas. Transformation of political accomplishments awaits: Former President
On the occasion, the former President was of the view that political achievements for democracy needed to be taken towards a phase of transformation.
As she said, potentialities for reforms and transformations in the achievement still remain and they should be explored within the people. "The dream of 'prosperous Nepal happy Nepali' envisaged by the people's multi-party system is yet to be realised," the former Head of the State said.
Stating that contributions of leader Bhandari to the cause of Nepal and Nepali in a short span of his political career were highly valuable and unforgettable, she remembered the late leader as one of the promoters of the 1990's successful political movement.
"The people's multiparty system propounded and promoted by leader Bhandari is home grown political ideology based on the specialties of the Nepali society," she said.
