CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said that a massive change was needed to improve the country's health sector.

Addressing an interaction program on Chitwan's Health Concerns here this morning, he said that there was a need for a policy-level overhaul in the health sector adding that old laws, rules, and practices were still in practice despite political changes in the country.

He was of the view that part of the delivery in practice was poor though the Constitution of Nepal has envisioned a socialist-oriented state. "Beautiful things were written in constitution and political documents. But, they are not implemented," the Maoist Centre Chairman said.

Prachanda also said that his dream was to ensure health care and education under the state's responsibility.

On the occasion, he argued that Bharatpur-based BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital could become the hub for cancer-related treatment since billions of rupees have been invested here so far.

Regarding the establishment of a cancer institute in Bhaktapur, he said, "Developing a center for cancer elsewhere is not possible except in Chitwan."

The Maoist Centre Chairman argued that Bharatpur Hospital should be made more systematic adding that the hospital was running with limited human resources and physical infrastructures despite being a central hospital.

Likewise, the former Prime Minister said that Nepal should become independent by producing COVID vaccines.

On the occasion, Chairman of Bharatpur Hospital Development Committee Dr Bhojraj Adhikari, Executive Director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Dr Dej Kumar Gautam, Senior Vice-President of Nepal Medical Association Dr Anil Bikram Karki, and other medical personalities familiarised Maoist Centre Chairman Prachanda about the issues of the health care sector.

The former Prime Minister is in his hometown for the past four days and is attending different functions and visiting locals at their doorsteps.
