MoHP Thursday reports 1,165 new COVID cases, 11 deaths

Nationwide COVID tally hits 781,989; death toll reaches 11,002

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Thursday reported 1,165 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 781,989. Additionally, 346 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 11 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. As of Thursday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,002. Presently, there are 25,772 active cases in Nepal. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 430 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 293 cases, Lalitpur logged 98 cases and Bhaktapur logged 39 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 1,689 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Thursday, a total of 745,215 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 95.3 per cent while the case fatality rate is at 1.5 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Wednesday had reported 1,180 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 779,492.

As of Thursday, a total of 4,068,591 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 25,772 persons staying in isolation while 220 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2,493,333 people have been administered the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines and 1,445,351 others have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 3,563,861 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 2,627,655 others have received the second dose as of September 16, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,378,477 persons — 194,293 in Province 1; 276,570 in Province 2; 347,414 in Bagmati Province; 121,419 in Gandaki Province; 253,954 in Lumbini Province, 70,731 in Karnali Province and 135,764 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

More than 226 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,836,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 46 countries.
