NA chopper to ferry fuel for equipment clearing roads in Manang

Around seventy people who had gone to the highlands of Manang have been rescued.

The Nepali Army (NA) helicopter is set to ferry fuel to operate the equipment used in clearing the landslide debris off the obstructed road in Manang district.

A meeting convened at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructures and Transport and attended by the representatives of the Nepali Army, people’s representatives of Manang where the roads were disrupted and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority took the decision to this effect.

The road and road sections in the district have been blocked by the debris of the landslides and flood triggered by the monsoon rain. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang directed the concerned authority to take prompt action to resume traffic operation in the obstructed roads across the country including Manang district.

A total of 13 roads have been obstructed while 28 others have been partially obstructed due to the monsoon-induced floods and landslides, according to the Department of Roads.

Among the 56 highways and roads where the traffic movement has been affected due to the natural disasters since the entry of monsoon, vehicles have begun plying on 15 roads, according to the Department of Road.

The NA team will fly to Manang on Friday with the technical team of the Department of Road and petroleum products to facilitate the operation of the equipment for clearing off the blocked roads.
