The National Civil Society Conference 2023 and the 28th annual general meeting of the NGO Federation of Nepal kicked off here in Kathmandu today.
Organised by the NGO Federation of Nepal in collaboration with various organisations including Mission East, KIRDARC, triangle, and Nepal SDGs Forum, Speaker Devraj Ghimire inaugurated the two-day event.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Ghimire pointed out the 'important' role of non-governmental organisations in changing the society and uplifting marginalised and backward communities in particular.
Similarly, pointing out that climate change is posing challenges to the world including Nepal, Dr Radha Wagle, Joint Secretary and Director General of the Department of Plant Resources, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, stressed the need for all to come together to deal with it.
The country is vulnerable to climate change due to a combination of its geographic, political and socio-economic conditions, and particularly marginalised communities, women, elderly and poor people have been affected the most by it, she said.
In the conference, thematic discussions on two subjects (on Civic Space in Nepal and Policy Discussion on Women, Youth and Marginalised Communities, and on Climate Change and Ecosystem Adaptation) were held. Similarly, presentations on different topics took place on the occasion.
The tomorrow's session will see presentations on SDG 8.7 and child labour, right to education, child protection and so on, it is said.
