A visiting delegation of the Nepali Congress (NC) held a meeting with Indian Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar on Friday.
The delegation headed by NC joint general secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat had a meeting with the Minister for External Affairs this afternoon, Dr. Mahat told RSS.
Various matters related to Nepal-India relations were discussed on the occasion. He further shared that the talks were highly fruitful and matters related to the Nepal-India border, the recent incidents of the Mahakali River tuin, COVID pandemic, and bilateral relations between Nepal and China were discussed.
Dr Mahat said that the delegation had apprised Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar of the border-related issue emerged of late between the two countries and the minister responded that the Indian side would take proactive measure to positively explore a solution to that end through the diplomatic medium.
Likewise, the visiting delegation had also put forth the issue of the Mahakali tuin case, Dr Mahat added. It may be noted that the Government of Nepal had sent a diplomatic note to India based on the report of a probe committee formed by the Nepal government in this regard. Dr Mahat further shared that they had urged the Indian side to examine the issue and explore solutions to that end.
On the occasion, the delegation urged the Indian minister to send the Covishield vaccine against coronavirus as per the earlier agreement between Nepal and India and the Minister replied that the Indian government would supply the vaccines at the earliest possible.
Also present in the bilateral meeting was Dr Mahat along with NC leader duo, Ajaya Chaurasiya, and Udaya Shumsher Rana on behalf of Nepal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Bijaya Chauthaiwale and Ashwin Johar along with Jaishankar from the Indian side.
The delegation headed by former Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Mahat had reached India on Thursday at the invitation of BJP.
