Nepali Congress President (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has demanded the government announce relief assistance packages for those quarters of life including workers and small traders hit by the COVID-19 crisis.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of International Workers’ Day today, the main opposition leader has urged the government to come up with better provisions for the control of infection and the treatment of the infected. As he said, the public health crisis is deepening due to the growing infections. The former Prime Minister has expressed his concern over a rising death toll from the virus and the shortage of ICU beds, ventilators, and oxygen which are vital for the treatment of infections primarily of serious cases. He accused that the government was responsible for the arrival of such an unwanted situation.

According to the NC leader, the first and historic labour movement was held in Biratnagar in 2003 BS under the leadership of Nepali Congress and then the government had arrested NC leader BP Koirala and other many leaders in a bid to suppress the movement which was the take-off point for the 1951 people’s revolution. Extending greetings to all the workers at home on the occasion of International Workers’ Day also known as May Day, the NC President said the party and workers were always there for mutual support and the common good.
