Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said there was an increasing importance of the daycare centre for elderly citizens in the wake of ongoing social change.
Minister Sharma expressed such a view at a programme organized by Senior Citizens Daycare Centre at Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-15 in Dang district on Sunday to exchange festival greetings.
She further said families have to live separately due to growing business in work and responsibilities. It has resulted in loneliness among senior citizens. In this backdrop, the daycare centre at Dang had become a means of meeting for the senior citizens. The daycare centre could be expanded to the urban areas, Minister Sharma suggested.
According to her, elderly citizens were at the receiving of discrimination and indifference in some cases.
The Minister, emphasizing such infrastructures with basic services, pledged to prioritize establishment of daycare centres in the upcoming budget. She said that the daycare centre should be developed by ensuring the senior citizen's access to physical and mental health treatment. She articulated the intent of the government to provide senior citizens their rights and amenities.
Expressing her concern over the young generation's tendency of indifference towards their parents, she stressed moral education for the young generation. "The State should pay attention to increase awareness and sense of responsibilities among the young generation towards their parents," the Minister underscored.
