Nepal-Mauritius ties discussed

A team of the Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, the Republic of South Africa comprising Counsellor Gyan Bahadur Magar and Attache Bishnu Prasad Dhakal had a working visit to Mauritius on July 5-8.

In course of thevisit, Counsellor Magar had a courtesy call on Minister of Labour, Human Resources Development and Training of Mauritius, Soodesh Satkam Callichurn, at latter's office in Port Louis.

On the occasion, various matters relating to the growing Nepal-Mauritius relations were discussed including the prospects of further employment opportunities for Nepali workers in Mauritius and the pragmatic measures to ensure ethical, orderly and hassle-free recruitment processes with due consideration of rights as well as interest of both workers and employers, reads a press release issued by the Embassy.

Minister Callichurn commended diligence, dutifulness and good performance of Nepali workers and also recognized their contribution to achieving socio-economic development goals of Mauritius.

Expressing gratitude to the Mauritian government for its continued efforts and policy reforms in the protection and promotion of rights and welfare of the workers including Nepalis, Counsellor Magar requested the Mauritian side to consider prioritizing further recruits, particularly skilled labours from Nepal.

Meanwhile, Counsellor Magar held fruitful discussion with Roy J. Bissoondoyal, the Head of Bilateral Asia Directorate, and Gujadhur, Head of Protocol, Consular and Immunities Directorarte at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius on further strengthening of cordial and cooperative relations between Nepal and Mauritius.

The Embassy team also conducted live enrolment services for renewal of electronic passport of 144 Nepali labours working in construction, hospitality and other service sector in Mauritius, interacted with them about their employment and working conditions and committed to providing speedy consular services as appropriate, reads the statement.

With the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1981, Nepal and Mauritius continue to cooperate in mutually beneficial areas on both bilateral and multilateral fronts.
