Nepal records 9,023 COVID cases on Friday, highest daily numbers

Nationwide COVID count reaches 377,603; 50 deaths reported

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Friday reported 9,023 new cases of coronavirus infection, the highest daily record. With this, the COVID count has reached 377,603. Additionally, 173 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry has recorded 50 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The highest 58 deaths in one day were reported on May 5. As of Friday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 3,579. Presently, there are 78,629 active cases in Nepal.

The three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 4,106 cases which makes about 45.5 per cent of the total new cases excluding those who tested positive in antigen test. Kathmandu registered 3,089 cases, Lalitpur 643 cases and Bhaktapur registered 374 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 2,905 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Friday, a total of 295,395 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Today the recovery rate has dropped from 79.4 per cent to 78.2 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Thursday had reported 8,970 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 368,580.

As of Friday, a total of 2,598,405 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 78,629 persons staying in isolation while 380 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 156.13 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,396,649 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 3:08 pm, on Friday, May 7, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
