Nepal's 2nd-longest suspension bridge planned

The construction of Nepal's second longest suspension bridge connecting one hillside to another using 'single span' technology has started in Baglung. The Suspension Bridge Division, which has built the world's longest (567m) bridge over Kaligandaki using single span suspension technology, has started preparations for the construction of another long bridge connecting Bangechaur of Baglung and Aduwabari of Parbat.

After the continuous efforts of Baglung Municipality, the division has started the process of construction of a long bridge connecting Baglung Municipality-4 Gauridham to Jaljala Village Municipality-8 Naglibang. The bidding process for the construction of the suspension bridge has started after the preliminary feasibility study, detailed project report and environmental impact assessment report have been prepared.

A team of technicians from the division has conducted an on-site study in the affected area of ​​the 524-meter-long and 172-meter-high bridge over Kaligandaki. "We are going through the contract process for the construction of the bridge. We have received information that there is no dispute in the affected area and the consultant has observed the site while working," said Engineer Top Bahadur Baniya.

He said that the bidding process would start immediately as there was enthusiasm among the people of the affected areas. The Government of Nepal has allocated Rs 120 million for the construction of the bridge. The bridge will be ready in two years after the contract is signed. "We have built the world's longest suspension bridge in Baglung, so there is no problem in constructing this bridge," said Baniya. "The technology is the same.

Chief of Baglung Municipality Janak Raj Poudel said that the municipality has been taking initiative for the construction of the bridge. "Even after the budget was allocated, we were cautious about the delay in the work," said Poudel.

After the construction of the bridge, it will be easy to bring the common people of Jaljala village of Parbat within the reach of Baglung Bazaar. Chairman of Baglung Municipality-4, Dhruva Bahadur KC, said that it would be easier to bring vegetables produced in Naglibang to Baglung Bazaar, Panchkot, Shalgram Museum and Baglung Kalika.

After the construction of this bridge, the journey that takes hours will be shortened to 10 minutes. The people of Naglibang are forced to commute to the gorge of Kaligandaki to reach Baglung and go to Jaljala village from Baglung. Mayor Poudel also said that another long bridge is being studied to connect Balewa Narayansthan of Baglung and Kushma Bazaar, the headquarters.
