Nepalese in Ukraine stranded at the border

As the conflict continues in Ukraine, Nepalese living there are moving to different neighboring countries for security. In the last few days, Nepalese have been left stranded in many countries bordering Ukraine from Poland to the Slovak Republic, after being strictly barred from entering Poland. Many are left fighting extreme cold without food or shelter.

President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Kumar Pant, who is currently on the Ukraine border, went to Medica on the border of Ukraine and Poland to understand the situation of the Nepalese there. He informed that some Nepalese are still unable to enter Poland due to problems on the Ukrainian side. "We have been trying to get them into Poland safely," Pant had announced on his social media account.

Discussions are also underway with Nepal's Ambassador in Germany Ram Kaji Khadka on how to facilitate diplomacy, Pant said.

He urged Nepalese living on the Ukrainian side to be patient for some time as they continue their efforts. He went on to explain how about 50 per cent of the Nepalese living at the border yesterday are now going to their destination by train or by bus with the help of Nepalese who are working day and night at the border in cities including Warsaw.

As the young Nepalese living in the area, organizations, and the Nepalese community are working day and night to rescue people from the border, Chairman Pant expressed his gratitude for their help and support.

 At the moment, President Pant himself is actively working on helping Nepalese cross the Ukrainian border and the relocation of those entering Poland to other cities. Pant assures that those who are in trouble will be rescued as soon as possible with the expectation of constructive cooperation from all.

While Pant is working with the rescue team, the only Nepali restaurant in Slovakia called 'Nepal Restaurant' has been set up as a 'rescue center' for Nepalese affected by the Ukraine-Russia war. Jay Prasad Shivakoti, the owner of the restaurant, says, “We welcome all the Nepalese who have been affected by the Russia-Ukraine war.”

He also informed that they are preparing for the arrival of all Nepalese from Ukraine.

"Those who are leaving and those who are stuck at the border of other countries can come to Slovakia if they feel comfortable," he added.

After arriving in Bratislava, one can take the main bus terminal or even the railway terminal to reach Nepal Restaurant for shelter according to the map.
