Nepali Ambassador Presents Credentials to Fijian President

 Ambassador of Nepal to Australia, Kailash Raj Pokharel presented his Letters of Credentials to Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, President of Fiji, as a non-residential Ambassador of Nepal to Fiji, amidst a special ceremony organised at the State House in Suva on September 27. The Ambassador was offered Guard of Honor during the ceremony, the Nepali Embassy, Canberra, Australia said in a press release.

 Following the presentation of Letters of Credentials, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the President Katonivere. During the call on, Ambassador Pokharel conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Ramchandra Paudelto the President of Fiji for his personal good health and happiness as well as for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the people of Fiji.

On the occasion, the Ambassador stated that bilateral relations between Nepal and Fiji have remained friendly and cordial since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on 12 June 1986 which has been based on mutual cooperation and adherence to the objectives and principles enshrined in the UN charter. He underscored that both countries can cooperate in multilateral forums on various matters of mutual concern.

 President of Fiji, while fondly recalling his visit to Nepal and experience of doing mountain flight there, admired the natural beauty of Nepal, and also expressed his wish to visit Nepal again and do the trekking up to Everest base camp.

After the conclusion of the Credential Ceremony, Ambassador Pokherel paid a courtesy call on Manoa S.N. Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications. Both discussed the possibilities for expanding the trade relations between Nepal and Fiji.

Ambassador Pokharel also met with Mrs Lenora Qerequretabua, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of Fiji. During the meeting various matters were discussed to further enhance Nepal-Fiji relationship. On the occasion, the Ambassador requested to vote in favour of Nepali candidate Ms Bandana Rana for her re-election in the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discriminations Against Women (CEDAW) for the term of 2025-2028. ---
