A Nepali woman, who was allegedly sold off in Cambodia, has filed a report with the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau demanding action against the traffickers.
A group of human traffickers including one Kisan Rai from Dhankuta has been accused of taking the woman to Cambodia where she was reportedly sold off under the pretexts of providing her with a construction job with Rs 100,000 a month, said the police.
The woman came in contact with Rai through Facebook before she became a victim. Meanwhile, acting on a report filed by the victim, police have arrested Rai.
According to police, the victim gave Rs 450,000 to Rai for taking her to Cambodia. Rai allegedly took the woman via the Kathmandu-Kakarbhitta route in Nepal and Assam-Nagaland-Manipur route in India from where she was taken on foot through Thailand to reach Cambodia, said police.
In Cambodia, the victim was sold off under the pretext that she would have to cook and serve food to Chinese nationals, according to the police report filed by the victim. Investigation into the case is underway, said Superintendent of Police Anurag Kumar Dwivedi.
