The online form of driver's license has been blocked due to technical reasons within a few days of its launch. Although the online application for driver's license was opened on October 25, it closed down in October 27. The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has stated that online forms have closed down due to problems.
Dr Loknath Bhusa, spokesperson of the department, said that technicians are repairing the software. He clarified that they are trying to start the service by resolving the problem as soon as possible. "We can't say how long it will take," he said. Spokesperson Bhushal said that there was a problem in applying for a new license but there was a problem in adding another category.
Due to COVID-19, the examination for the license had been held off for one and a half years. The online form was opened after about 10 months after the examination was postponed due to the lockdown issued by the government.
Shortly after it was opened, the service was again suspended due to the second wave. The service could not be operated in three districts of Kathmandu Valley since last April. Although the government has opened other areas since last June, the Department of Transportation did not open the permits, saying COVID transmission could increase.
