The political parties have whetted discussions on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact. The ruling Nepali Congress held parleys separately with ruling partner, CPN (Maoist Centre), and major opposition CPN UML on Thursday.
Amid differing stand within the ruling partners, the government had tabled the MCC compact at House of Representatives on February 20. The political parties which are against the passage of MCC by the parliament have even resorted to street protest. Although the HoR meeting was scheduled to discuss the MCC compact today, it has postponed at last hour. So, it is now rescheduled for the Friday meeting of HoR.
In this connection, PM and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held meeting at federal parliament building. Immediately after this meeting, UML Chairman Oli and Chairman of Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal met to discuss the pressing issues including, MCC compact.
UML Chairman Oli held separate one-to-one meetings with PM Deuba and Maoist Chairman Dahal. The one-to-one meeting of the top leaders was followed by the UML-NC and UML-Maoist Centre meetings, according to UML leader Subash Nembang.
Leader Nembang said, “A long serious discussion was held with PM Deuba and Maoist Centre Chairman Dahal. It was thorough meeting on MCC, national affairs and parliament obstruction.”
According to him, the meetings were positive and such discussions could be continued further.
