Ekjit Roka of Myagdi district has proven that it's never too late to resume education that one left halfway owing to various circumstances.

Roka, also ward no 1 chairperson of Kuhun of Mangala rural municipality in Myagdi, resumed his education he had left 21 years ago.

The 37 year-old people's representative had called it quits to his education after failing in the then School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination in 2057 BS.

Feeling deeply dejected for not making it through the exam considered the 'Iron Gate', he sought greener pasture and spent nearly eight years in Malaysia and Afghanistan as a migrant worker.

Upon his return from foreign employment in 2069 BS, he began his second inning of his career as a social worker. He got involved in the local clubs such as Deurali Youth Club and the like to continue with social services.

He then forayed into politics and contested in the local level election in 2022. One who had already won the hearts of locals through social services won in the local level election as well.

He got elected as the ward chairperson representing CPN (UML). Many of his friends and relatives as well as well-wishers suggested him to consider resuming his education.

Roka, thus, realizing the importance of education decided to resume his unfinished school education and sat for the SEE examination in 2079 BS from Deepsikha Secondary School in Kuhun.

The politician-turned-student passed the exam with 2.65 GPA, thanks to his sheer determination, passion and hard work. The result of the exam came out last Thursday.

Roka's story has become a source of inspiration for the people in and out of his constituency. Undoubtedly, his story has become a source of inspiration for many to pursue their educational goals regardless of their age and irrespective of the gap in their academic pursuit.
