Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Trilochan Bhatta, today said that initiatives would be taken to ensure people’s right to food. In this regard, the government at all three levels would be coordinated, he said in a talk with the network for people’s right to food. Representatives from the network visited CM Bhatta in his office and submitted a memorandum to him.
On the occasion, he gave assurances that the government would work for resolving problems relating to people’s right to food as the issue is connected with economic, social, and physical infrastructure development. He urged organisations working in the field of people’s right to food to coordinate with the provincial government as agriculture has been prioritised for reforms in the country’s economy while promoting self-employment opportunities.
The representatives through the memo apprised the CM of the people of the province facing hardship without job opportunities due to COVID-19. Most of the residents of the province went to neighbouring Indian cities for a job.
However, the infection has left most of them jobless. They demanded that to ensure people’s right to food, a province food council be established soon. Likewise, the government itself should purchase products from farmers and ensure the availability of seeds in time.
