Plane crash: Relatives start receiving dead bodies

The mortal remains of some of those killed in the crash of the ATR-72 plane belonging to Yeti Airlines in Pokhara on Sunday are being handed over to their relatives.

The relatives of Sadakat Ali Miya of Pokhara Metropolitan City-13 received Miya’s body on Monday evening.

The postmortem of the bodies that were identified was started only this evening at Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara. The hospital administration said that the mortal remains of other bodies would be handed over to their relatives on Tuesday morning as the postmortem of those bodies is ongoing.

According to the hospital, the postmortem of only 24 bodies would be conducted in Pokhara out of those 70 dead bodies recovered so far.

The postmortem of the foreign nationals, those bodies still not identified and the crew members would be carried out at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu.

The spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kaski, Gyan Bahadur Khadka said that preparations are ongoing to take those bodies to Kathmandu in helicopters on Tuesday.

A team of forensic experts is working in the Western Regional Hospital here for the postmortem of the bodies.

The Yeti Airlines plane that had left TIA for Pokhara on Sunday morning crashed in the Seti River Gorge just some moments before the landing and 72 people: 68 passengers and four crew members on board the plane were killed.
