Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasised cooperation among the political parties that had fought together for democracy.

In a meeting with major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC)’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his personal residence at Budhanilakantha on Wednesday evening, PM Oli sought Deuba’s support in his bid to win the vote of confidence in the parliament.

Deuba, also the former Prime Minister, clarified PM Oli that NC could in no way give a vote of confidence to the PM, according to NC’s joint general-secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat.

The House of Representatives is convening on May 10 where PM Oli will seek a vote of confidence.

During today’s meeting, Deuba had drawn the attention of the government towards the prevention, control and treatment of Covid-19 cases. Deuba had also expressed his qualm over the introduction of the ordinances by the incumbent government at a time when it was getting late to summon the budget session in the parliament.

Also present in the meeting on behalf of the ruling CPN UML was Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel, CPN UML parliamentary party’s deputy leader Subash Nembang, Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa.

Similarly, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel, Vice-President Bimalendra Nidhi, general-secretaries Dr Shashank Koirala and Purna Bahadur Khadka, former general-secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and deputy general-secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat attended the meeting besides President Deuba from NC front.

The meeting of the NC’s office-bearers and former office-bearers on Tuesday had concluded that it will oppose and fail Oli’s bid to achieve the vote of confidence from the parliament.
