Prohibition period for the Vice-Presidential election

The Election Commission has announced that the period of prohibition of campaigning will be enforced from 12:00 tonight for the election of the vice-presidential post scheduled for March 17.

The prohibition period has been implemented 48 hours before the polling day from 12:00 PM until the polling stations are closed.

The Election Commission has issued the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, which will be in effect using the authority given by Section 22 of the Election Commission Act, 2073.

According to the said code of conduct, the prohibition period will be applied to conduct the election in a clean, free, fair, reliable, transparent, and fear-free environment, according to the statement issued by the spokesperson of the commission Shaligram Sharma Paudel.

According to Section 24 of 5 of the Election (Offenses and Punishment) Act, 73 and Section 17 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, any kind of discussion, interaction, meeting, conference, workshop, symposium, etc., including election campaigning, is prohibited during that period.

In addition, doing any kind of propaganda in favor or against the candidate, asking for votes, making statements contrary to the code of conduct, issuing press releases, publishing and broadcasting, and spreading materials of victory/loss predictions through the media. The commission has clarified that it should not be done.
