The government of Province 1 has sought permission to purchase COVID-19 vaccines from the federal government. Minister of Social Development of Province 1, Usha Kala Rai, has requested the central government to give permission to the provincial government to buy vaccines against the coronavirus.
During a virtual meeting held by the Ministry of Health and Population, Minister Rai mentioned that if permission is granted then the provincial government will immediately start work to procure the vaccines. She also said that if the federal government cannot manage the vaccines then it should allow the provincial government to do so.
She mentioned that since experts have been saying that there is a danger of the third wave it is necessary to get people vaccinated against the contagion as quickly as possible. Minister Rai also informed that the virus has been spreading in the rural areas of the province and the provincial government is working to control it but efforts have been hindered due to the unavailability of vaccines.
Minister Rai also said that all district hospitals in the province will be better managed. She said that work has already been started on that front. She also informed that the provincial government is planning to introduce a health programme for the poor and vulnerable communities.
The virtual meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population, Sher Bahadur Tamang, secretary of the ministry and the ministers of social development of all seven provinces.
