Public transportation fares have been increased by up to 28 per cent. The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has increased the public transportation fares from 20 per cent to 28 per cent.
According to the department, public transportation fares for vehicles ferrying passengers has been increased by up to 28 per cent. Similarly, fares for vehicles transporting goods in the hilly regions have been increased by 20 per cent.
Meanwhile, the DoTM has said fares for vehicles transporting goods in the Tarai region have been increased by 26 per cent. The department has informed the fares have been revised by taking into consideration the cost involved in paying wages to the employees, cost of fuel and tyres, bank interests, operation cost, tax payments, and operating profit of the public vehicles.
The decision to hike the public transportation fares was taken by the erstwhile Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang on July 11.
