The reconstruction work of the historical tower, Dharahara, which has been stopped for the past week, has not yet started.
Kathmandu Metropolis and locals have stopped the reconstruction work of Dharahara since last November 26, saying that the dozer was used to destroy the main stream that sends water to Sundhara.
Chairman of Kampa Ward No. 22 Chinikaji Maharjan says that discussions are being held with the locals on how to proceed with the stalled work, but the work has not been started since no conclusion has been reached. Chairman Maharjan said, "There is a discussion about forming a committee for daily observation and the construction work will proceed after the completion of the committee in a day or two."
He said that the structure of historical beauty, which is a model of original art and culture, should not be destroyed in the name of reconstruction. He said that the initiative has been taken to preserve the historical beauty of the structure.
After destroying the long wooden pipe that sends water to Sundhara, which has historical importance, the construction company prepared to construct a huge tank that can hold 100,000 liters of water by using a dozer, and the rest of the Dharahara reconstruction work has been stopped.
The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli duly inaugurated the reconstruction of the Dharahara collapsed by the earthquake on 12th January 2018. The tower built on the area of Bayalis Ropani will have 22 floors and a height of 72 meters and a base of 48 feet. Dharahara Tower was inaugurated on 24 April , 2021 as the reconstruction of Dharahara Tower was completed. After a year and a half since the inauguration, other construction works have not been completed.
