The Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission, Director Kumar Thapaliya, has requested suggestions from the concerned parties for the reforms to be made in the election system and laws.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the review program with the representatives of the observation organization that was conducted in the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly member elections held on November 4th, Chief Commissioner Thapalia informed that the commission is doing its homework to amend the law based on the experience of conducting and managing elections.

He clarified that the Commission is ready to implement amendments to the constitution and laws based on the suggestions of experts and experience. Stating that studies are being conducted for policy suggestions in the electoral system, he urged people to think about the need for systemic reform based on the wishes, demands, and needs of the people.

Chief Commissioner Thapalia mentioned that during the nomination of candidates in the elections until the candidate is asked to submit the prescribed documents and self-declaration, even though it is within the jurisdiction of the commission, it has not been possible to immediately verify which candidate's citizenship is maintained or not.

In the program, Prof. Kapil Shrestha, a human rights activist, said that the Commission should be given legal autonomy in the matter of setting the election date. During the program, representatives of 37 organizations involved in the election gave suggestions to the commission on the best practices and challenges of the election based on the group discussion.
