In two months, Rs. 61,20,806 has been collected for donations in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The Lumbini Development Fund took five days to count the donation boxes on Friday.
Dhundiraj Bhattarai, Treasurer of Lumbini Development Fund, informed that with the increase in the number of domestic and international tourists, the collection of money from the donation box kept at Mayadevi Temple is increasing.
Previously, they were counted once in three months, but this time, the donations were filled up quickly, so they were counted in less than two months. On 30th October last year, Rs. 27,18,000 was collected for donations.
Treasurer Bhattarai said that since the season of visiting Lumbini has also started, the number of tourists coming from neighboring countries including India, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and Europe has also increased.
According to the Information Branch of Lumbini Development Fund, 82,205 domestic tourists visited in the month of November alone. Similarly, during this period, 38,689 people from India and 7,473 people from third countries visited Lumbini, according to the Information Branch.
5,45,000 domestic tourists have visited Lumbini till November 2022. Similarly, during this period, 188,000 tourists from India and 181,000 tourists from 84 countries including Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka have visited Lumbini.
