Rural municipality spent Rs. 1.6 million to buy sarees

The Office of the Auditor General has made its 59th annual report public. The report also instructed to recover the amount not spent per the rules. People's representative of a village municipality of Sarlahi has misused government funds to distribute sarees.

It is mentioned in the annual report of the Auditor General that Basbariya Village Municipality Sarlahi has purchased and distributed 1.6 million sarees through the people's representatives. This type of expenditure needs to be controlled, the report said.

Similarly, it has also been stated that people's representatives are not lagging behind to take facilities that are not mentioned in the act. Buddh Shanti Village Municipality has spent Rs 1.3 million rupees this year by providing smartphones for 14 officers and employees. The 59th report of the Auditor General mentions that the amount written for the expenses of facilities not written in the Act should be recovered.

At present, a lot has been spent on vehicles in local bodies. It has been found that some local bodies have purchased vehicles while some are renting them.

Naumule village municipality Dailekh has written an expenditure of Rs. 2.4 million 55 thousand for renting a vehicle. It is said that it is irregular to write the rent expenses for the purpose.

Irregularities have also been found in the food distributed to the students in the school.

In the Terai district, there is an arrangement to pay Rs 180 for lunch at the rate of Rs. 15 per student. Ekdara Village Municipality Mahottari has given 180 days of lunch for 112 days of school operation, so it has been suggested to recover the excess amount of Rs 37 million 63 thousand. Similarly, schools have been suggested to reimburse the expenses incurred even when they had been closed for a long time due to the pandemic.

The Bharatpur Metropolitan City has purchased 333 bicycles worth Rs 2.13 million for the children of needy families. It is stated in the report of the Auditor General that the transparent basis of student selection has not been established for the distribution of the purchased bicycles.

It has been found that the representatives of the local bodies have not lagged behind in taking more facilities.

The report also states that the officials of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality should return the amount of Rs 52 million and 10 thousand that they have taken more facility payments.

Janakpur Sub-Metropolis has purchased flower pots worth Rs 1.66 million which turned out to be defective. It has been mentioned in the report to return the pots and recover the amount.

It was found that 66,000 packets of sanitary pads worth Rs.16,33,000 were wasted. Sanitary pads for students studying in public schools were kept in stock without ever being handed over to the schools.
