Bharatpur Metropolitan has started distribution of sanitary pads in all of its schools. The metropolis has started the distribution of 410,090 packets of sanitary pads for girls of 74 schools.
In the first phase, 180,000 packets of sanitary pads have been distributed by the metropolis. Sanitary pads have been distributed at a rate of 15 packets per student based on the number of female students in 18 schools operating above 6th grade under Lanku Resource Center. Bharatpur Metropolitan Deputy Chief Parvati Shah Thakuri has handed over the pads to the school principals and representatives.
Thakuri informed that the pads coming in the second phase will be handed over to other schools. He urged the students to take care of waste management along with its use. According to Thakuri, it would be easier for the girls to continue their schooling if they could manage sanitary pads in the schools as it would be uncomfortable for them to go to classes during menstruation.
Chief of the Bharatpur Metropolitan Education Administration Division Mahendra Poudel said that the procurement process has been delayed despite making plans to distribute sanitary pads in the past. Sanitary pads have been procured through a bidding agreement at a reduced price of Rs 9,263,399.
