Kohalpur Municipality in Banke has directed the community schools not to charge extra fees for providing separate classes in the English medium to students from kindergarten to Class 8. The municipality has said it will stop providing funds to any school that is found going against this directive and also initiate other action.
Education Officer of the municipality, Ananta Kumar Pudyal, has also mentioned that if any school is found charging extra fees under any pretext or compelling guardians to pay any extra charge then the respective student will be withdrawn from that school.
He also said that all community schools are funded by the municipality for the education of students from kindergarten to Class 8 so whether classes are being run in Nepali or English medium it should be free of cost.
The municipality has been providing funds on a quarterly basis since fiscal year 2076/77 to all community schools in the municipality to operate classes and also conduct examinations. The municipality has also been providing funds for educational materials and maintenance of the community schools.
