Schools, colleges to be closed until Friday

MoEST decides to close all educational institution in view of adverse impact of unusual condition seen in atmosphere

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has decided to give holiday to all educational institutions until April 2, Friday, considering the possible adverse impact of the unusual condition seen in the atmosphere.

An emergency meeting held at the Ministry and chaired by Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha today decided to close all the educational institutions for four days.

Minister Shrestha informed the meeting that the educational institutions had to be closed due to the unfavourable condition of the atmosphere caused by the dense haze that has accumulated in the atmosphere.

Education Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya, Science Secretary Dr Sanjaya Sharma, Ministry's spokesperson Joint Secretary Deepak Sharma, Joint Secretary Hari Lamsal, Director General at the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development, Baikuntha Aryal, among other officials of the Ministry were present in the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, Minister Shrestha had held consultations with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on this matter.

Minister Shrestha informed the meeting held at the Ministry immediately after the consultation with the PM that all the educational institutions had to be closed considering the health of hundreds of thousands of pupils.
