Namobuddha Municipality has started giving self-defense training to the girls in the city. The three-day training has been started from Friday at Dapcha Secondary School in Namobuddha Municipality-8. Forty teenagers from five schools in wards 1, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the city have participated in the training organized with the objective of reducing gender based violence. The training, conducted by The Mount Everest Taekwondo Dojang in Mandandeupur with the support of the municipality, was inaugurated by Mayor Tipi Sharma Timalsina.
During the training, information will be provided on how to raise the question of any abuse, to respond immediately, to make a complaint by going to the local level or police, or even to make it possible to retaliate physically. Information will also be given about the legal provisions of such incidents.
Mayor Timalsina said that the training would play an important role in building a violence-free society, adding that such training would now be conducted continuously. "We have been running continuous programs for building women-friendly and child-friendly cities since we were elected," he said. City Deputy Chief Ram Devi Tamang said that such training would play an important role in reducing sexual violence as it starts from adolescence.
